GigSmart founder and co-CEO, Ted Catino, developed the device-based job platform to connect freelancers with interesting and well-paying job opportunities. An innovative entrepreneur and successful businessman, Ted Catino advocates for families to embrace a positive work-life balance.

Having the flexibility to adjust work hours to make more time for family, personal interests, or education is essential to an employee's well-being and productivity. Highlighted below are some ways workplaces can encourage a better work-life balance among their employees.

1. Teleworking. If the majority of an employee’s tasks can be done remotely, offering opportunities to work outside of the workplace can greatly improve employee well-being. This is especially beneficial for workers with long commutes or who have young children at home.

2. Flexible Start and Finish Times. Instead of requiring all employees to be present from 9 to 5, many companies only obligate staff to be in the office for an eight-hour period. Employees can, therefore, create their schedule based on their own preferences. Early risers can work from 6 am to 2 pm, while working parents can schedule a later start time in order to drop their child off at school.

3. Paid Time Off Policies. Paid Time Off policies combine all vacation, sick days, and personal days into one timebank that employees can draw from to take a day off. Employees do not need to inform their manager of the reason for requested time off and they can be used for any purpose.

There are people who work hard to have the best life. Some work to give the best life to the people they love and care for. However, it is undeniable that we only have one life. This life is not something we can take for granted. Money is not the answer to everything. You need to include love and affection.
